About the Swaziland Editors Forum

The Swaziland Editors Forum is a voluntary association of News Media Editorial Executive leaders from the broadcast radio and TV, Online and Print media. It was established in November 1999 to provide a platform for editors to engage at a policy level with key opinion leaders and decision-makers in the cultural, economic, political and social spheres on issues of human rights and freedom of Expression. The Forum specifically stands for the advancement, protection and promotion of press freedom that is founded ethical standards founded on the tenets of truth, accuracy, public interest and prevention of harm. We strive to provide a cohesive platform anchored on continuous learning, membership professional development and welfare.

Digitisation which has inspired a major transformation of information consumption habits has imposed radical and existential threats to the legacy media with career ending impacts and job losses on journalists. Society is also suffering from severe erosions of human rights due to disinformation, misinformation, hate speech and political propaganda that results in information poverty.

Major threats of cyber security, identity thefts and criminal syndicates abusing technology to access citizens information are increasingly major issues that undermine public trust in information platforms. The Forum continues to explore meaningful partnerships for effective responses to protect human rights and preserve public trust in the news media as a credible source of information.
